Vintage Christmas Ornament

From the childhood the most favourite holiday of people of all times and peoples is the Christmas. But not many know from where there was a tradition to decorate with toys a christmas tree.

Custom to decorate trees existed at our ancestors even more two thousand years ago.

During new time in XVI century in Europe a place of fur-trees in Christmas decorated a small tree of a beech with the fine apples cooked in honey, plums, pears.

And in XVIII century the Christmas tree became a fur-tree. But it is not enough one tree for creation of a celebratory atmosphere. So necessity for manufacturing special christmas ornaments has appeared.

On change to ornaments from fruit there came nuts and sweets, and the top of fur-trees was decorated with the images of a star cut out from a cardboard or the sun. As trees decorated with specially baked gingerbreads which turned in a color foil.

Since second half XVIII century christmas-tree decorations become more beautiful: the gilt fur-tree spheres and empty egg a shell as the tinsel has appeared. And in 1848 for the first time in the city of Lagush, Thuringia the first fur-tree spheres have been made.

Them made of a color or transparent glass. Covered from within with a layer of lead, and outside decorated with flashes. The technology was constantly improved. Soon masters have learned to make thin glass balls of any sizes, and as any toys: birdies, fishes, people, fruit and many other things. A lead covering have replaced with nitrate of silver. Toys were painted by a silver and gold string.

In Russia the first glass toys of steel have started mak} during the First World war in Klin. As toys made of a cardboard. This technical equipment of manufacturing of christmas ornaments has been invented in Dresden, Germany. Toys made of two parts of a convex cardboard with which pasted over with an aluminium and bronze paper.

It were every possible birds, animal, grandfathers frosts and so on. As sewed dolls which had paper persons.
But toys made as the hands from cotton wool were considered as the most valuable ornaments. On a wire skeleton slices of cotton wool were wound and figures of children, seamen and angels turned out. Such toys were popular in Russia before the First World war.

On change to wadded toys there came fruit from papie-mashe and a velvet. Tops of fur-trees have started to decorate Vifliem star, and soon it have replaced on topper.
With 1925 on 1935 in Russia it was forbidden to celebrate new year. And when the tradition has renewed, on change to wadded angels there came wadded pioneers. Have started to show various toys with the Soviet symbolics: a sickle and ground, red stars.

In 1949 to Pushkin's 150-anniversary Christmas ornaments with the image of characters of his fairy tales have appeared. So various glass princesses, kings and fishermen with old women have appeared.

In 60-s' years all has as much as possible become simpler. Trees began to decorate basically with glass spheres with the most simple lists. Spheres have started to decorate with slices of foam rubber. For example, glass nested dolls in foam rubber scarfs have appeared.

And then glass toys have started to supersede ornaments from plastic. Because their manufacture is cheaper, and the toy weighs on much less glass.
Certainly the modern fur-tree much more differs from what was earlier. But ornaments of all times on the it is fine. Seldom at whom on fur-trees now you will meet the wadded boy, the cardboard elephant and the candied edible apple. But to each time the fur-tree.
